Agency Setup and Organization Structure for Domain Management

How agencies can structure their clients in their dashboard and give them access to it

Agency Setup and Organization Structure for Domain Management

Many agencies manage domains both for themselves and for their clients. A key part of this workflow is usually the management of DNS records, which are often provided as a service for clients to support websites, email, and other online services. There are several possible setup approaches depending on your needs.

It is important to decide on your organizational structure early. Changing your setup later can be complex and time consuming. The following options outline different ways agencies can structure their domain management.

No Organizational Structure

If you manage a smaller number of clients, you can keep all domains directly in your main dashboard. All changes such as DNS management can be handled centrally without separating clients into different structures.

This approach is suitable if your clients do not require their own access and you manage everything on their behalf. It keeps your setup simple and centralized.

For better organization, you can use tags (you can find and create them in your settings) to group domains by client or project, making it easier to filter and manage them within a single dashboard.

Organizational Structure for Internal Use

If you want a clearer separation between clients, you can use suborganizations to structure your domains internally. Each client can have their own organization, allowing you to manage their domains in a more structured way.

This setup provides several advantages. Each organization can have its own domains, billing overview, zone management, and reporting. This makes administration easier and improves internal clarity.

It also simplifies client support, as you can work directly within the context of a specific client organization when making changes or handling requests.

Organization and User Structure for Client Access

If you want to give your clients access to their own dashboard, you can create a separate suborganization for each client and invite users into it.

You can define different roles depending on your needs, such as read only access, limited access, flexible custom roles, or full administrator access. This allows you to control exactly what each client can see and do.

At the same time, you can still access the client suborganization for support purposes, allowing you to make changes, review reports, and assist when needed.

In the future, we will also offer a white label option for the dashboard, allowing agencies to fully align the interface with their own branding and remove visible references to OpusDNS.

Agencies with Their Own Client Portal

Some agencies operate their own client portals. In these cases, it is important to evaluate whether maintaining a separate system is necessary or whether using the OpusDNS dashboard would reduce maintenance effort.

If you prefer to keep your own portal, you can use our state of the art API to integrate domain management into your existing system. This allows you to continue using your own interface while relying on OpusDNS for domain operations.

If your agency also offers hosting, there are established all in one solutions such as Hostware or WHMCS that already include extensive hosting and customer management features. These platforms provide ready made plugins for domain management with OpusDNS, allowing you to integrate domain operations directly without building your own system from scratch.
