What is DNS?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a system that ensures internet users can reach websites with user-friendly domain names instead of IP addresses. It translates the domain name into the IP address of a server, enabling your computer to connect to the website.

How Does DNS Work?

When you enter a URL (e.g. https://opusdns.com) into your browser, your computer sends a request to a DNS server. The DNS server then searches for the corresponding IP address and directs the user to the correct website. This happens in milliseconds, making internet access fast and efficient.

Why is DNS Important?

Without DNS, the internet would be impractical, as everyone would have to enter a long numerical string (IP address) instead of an easy-to-remember domain name. DNS is, therefore, the backbone of internet usability.
