Update Contact Attribute Sets

A direct update of Contact Attribute Sets is currently not possible once the contact is already in use as a domain contact, due to the underlying association logic and related dependencies.

We may improve this behavior in the future and update this article accordingly if changes are introduced. Until then, this article explains how you can still modify contacts and manage TLD-specific attribute set assignments for individual TLDs.

When is this relevant?

As you may know, some TLDs such as .fr require additional information or verification from the registry, for example extra authentication steps or specific registrant data. To support this, you can create TLD-specific attribute sets and assign them to your contacts to meet the respective requirements.

Updating contacts and attribute sets becomes relevant when contact details change, such as address, company information, or any data defined in the assigned attribute set. In these cases, the related domain contact and attribute set should be updated accordingly.

In this article, you will learn how to update contacts with TLD-specific attribute sets when they are already associated with domains.

How to Update Contacts with TLD-specific attribute sets?

Strategy

Since a direct update is currently not possible for contacts and attribute sets that are already associated with domains, the recommended approach is to create a new contact, a new attribute set, or both, depending on your requirements.

You can then assign the existing or updated attribute set to the newly created contact. The easiest way to do this is by using the contact duplication process and modifying only the relevant information afterward.

After creating the new contacts and attribute sets and associating them with each other, you can assign this new contact configuration to your domains.

Step by Step

Option A: The contact information (for example the address) needs to be updated
  1. Navigate to Contacts in the left sidebar.
  2. Open All Contacts.
  3. Select the contact you want to update.
  4. Click Duplicate in the upper-right corner.
  5. Update the required information, such as the address or other contact details.
  6. Click Duplicate to create the new contact.

Alternatively, you can create a completely new contact instead of duplicating an existing one.

After creating the new contact, assign the existing attribute set to it. Before doing so, make sure the attribute set itself does not also require changes.

Once completed, you can assign this new contact to all relevant domains that are currently using the previous contact version.

Option B: The attribute set needs to be updated
  1. Navigate to Contacts in the left sidebar.
  2. Open Attribute Sets.
  3. Create a new attribute set with the updated information.

If you now navigate to an existing contact, you will notice that the associated attribute set cannot simply be replaced once the contact is already in use.

Because of this limitation, you will need to either:

  • duplicate the existing contact, or
  • create a completely new contact.

Afterward, assign the newly created attribute set to the new contact.

Once the new contact and attribute set are properly associated, update your domains to use the new contact instead of the previous one.
